Description:
We're excited to welcome back our friend and writer, Simona Bertocchi who will guide us in a discussion about the significance of food in Italian culture and literature throughout history. Food plays a central role in Italian literature, often symbolizing an event for sharing, connecting, and planning. The banquet table, in particular, becomes an important symbol, a space where cultures and stories converge. We will explore how authors, from the past to the present, have written about flavor, conviviality, and the vital role of food in daily life. From Dante’s verses to twentieth-century novels like Andrea Camilleri’s "Gli arancini di Montalbano", and even the most recent literary works, we’ll see how food has been a vehicle to reflect the evolving fabric of Italian society over time.
Simona will also discuss her novel "I pasticci di Leonardo", which centers on Leonardo da Vinci and his kitchen experiments, blending science, alchemy, and mystery.
