Description:

We're excited to welcome back our friend and writer, Simona Bertocchi who will guide us in a discussion about the significance of food in Italian culture and literature throughout history. Food plays a central role in Italian literature, often symbolizing an event for sharing, connecting, and planning. The banquet table, in particular, becomes an important symbol, a space where cultures and stories converge. We will explore how authors, from the past to the present, have written about flavor, conviviality, and the vital role of food in daily life. From Dante’s verses to twentieth-century novels like Andrea Camilleri’s "Gli arancini di Montalbano", and even the most recent literary works, we’ll see how food has been a vehicle to reflect the evolving fabric of Italian society over time.

Simona will also discuss her novel "I pasticci di Leonardo", which centers on Leonardo da Vinci and his kitchen experiments, blending science, alchemy, and mystery.

About Simona Bertocchi...

Simona Bertocchi was born in Torino, in northern Italy, and after graduating, she relocated to Montignoso in Tuscany, where she works as a marketing manager and event planner at a luxury hotel.

Above all, Simona is a passionate writer, with her first book published in 2006.

She has written several books, ranging from poetry and short stories to historical novels. Her works have earned public and media attention, as well as prestigious awards from the Tuscan Regional Government. Simona has also presented her books at Italy's major literary festivals. An expert in art and history, she has a deep passion for food, wine, classic films, and road trips. Additionally, she collaborates with cultural institutions, organizing literary festivals in Tuscany and across other regions of Italy.
